Sketching
Every character begins on paper — its posture, its patterns, its attitude drawn by hand.
Carving
The prototype is carved by hand from wood and used to create the mould from which each character is cast.
Casting
Each piece is cast by hand, then removed from the mould, trimmed and sanded smooth.
Painting
Layer upon layer of colour is applied by hand, creating patterns, checks and ornamental details.
Finishing
Gold and silver leaf, black-and-white patterns, crowns, jewellery, eyelashes and, occasionally, a cigarette give each figure its distinctive expression.
Signing
Every piece is signed by hand and registered in our database — proof of its authenticity.
