Side Table Stanislas
Stanislas is an oval wooden side table with a useful top and four legs that end in animal feet. The Art Nouveau-inspired curves keep the outline composed; the checks, colour and footwear prevent it from becoming well behaved. It is furniture first, although only just. Each Stanislas is built from wood and finished by hand. Layers of blue, coral, gold-toned colour and black-and-white pattern cover the oval top, apron and legs, with every curl and border drawn freehand. The feet and smaller details are painted separately at the end. The surface is sealed for daily use, and the route of the brush changes from one table to the next. No two Stanislas tables are identical.Place it beside a sofa, between chairs or next to a bed, where the oval form offers room for a lamp, books and a glass without sharp corners projecting into the room. It also suits a hallway beneath artwork. Use a dry cloth, avoid solvents and keep the painted surface out of direct midday sunlight. Stanislas is intended for indoor use. The École de Nancy supplied the curves. The feet appear to have made their own arrangements.
