Elephants – hand-painted art pieces full of character by Tom's Drag

In many cultures, the elephant symbolises good luck, strength and a good memory. At Tom’s Drag, he is called Jumbo, Tuffi, Constantin, Hathi, Ganesha or Salvador – and instead of being grey, he wears a coat with a checked pattern, flowers and gold accents. Sometimes he even wears golden boots. Most of the elephants are under 30 cm tall; the largest, called Alexander, is a freestanding sculpture standing 125 cm high. The elephants are eye-catchers, conversation-starters and works of art that lend a room personality and character.

Each elephant begins as a sketch on paper. A hand-carved prototype is then created, which serves as the mould for every subsequent piece. Each animal is then cast from the negative mould of the prototype, sanded down and hand-painted layer by layer. Chequered patterns, ornaments, golden accents. As the brush is guided by a person rather than a machine, every piece turns out slightly different. That is precisely why every piece of art from Tom’s Drag is one of a kind.
