Elephant Alexander
Alexander is an XXL elephant reduced to his most commanding lines: broad ears, a long trunk and a body that rises like a painted column. He stands well over a metre high and does not so much occupy a floor position as establish one.Each Alexander is formed in fibreglass and finished by hand. Silver-toned areas, turquoise, green, coral and black-and-white patterns are painted in layers down the long body, with freehand ornament crossing the ears and legs. The eyes, tusks, trunk and narrow foot details are completed carefully at the end. The brush changes from one figure to the next, so no two Alexanders are identical.He belongs on the floor in an entrance, beside a staircase or at the end of a long room where the full height can be seen. Give him a clear wall and little competition. Alexander is intended for indoor decoration. Elephants traditionally symbolise wisdom, strength and good fortune. His posture suggests he has accepted all three appointments.
