Ballo in maschera Arlecchino
Arlecchino has reached the masked ball, found a comfortable position and brought a stringed instrument in case the evening lacks direction. Reclining in a feathered cap and ruff, one red leg extended, the harlequin looks ready to provide either music or commentary. The room will discover which soon enough. Each Arlecchino is cast in marble resin, released, trimmed and sanded by hand. Blue, green, red and black-and-white patterns are painted in layers across the costume, with the harlequin details drawn freehand around the folded body. The face, instrument, ruff and feathered headpiece are completed carefully at the end. Pattern and colour shift with every brush, so no two Arlecchinos are identical.Arlecchino belongs on a sideboard, broad shelf or low cabinet where the reclining outline and instrument remain visible. Place the figure near books, records or a drinks tray and the scene begins to explain itself. It is intended for indoor decoration. No Venetian palazzo is required; a quiet corner with an audience will serve, although Arlecchino may object to the word quiet.
