The purple shoes suggest he has retained final authority over the details.Each Il Conte is cast in marble resin, released, trimmed and sanded by hand. Green, red, turquoise and black-and-white sections are painted in layers across the coat and trousers, with every stripe and ornament drawn freehand. The mask, face, cane and feathered headpiece are completed carefully at the narrow edges. Small changes in line and colour belong to the process, so no two Il Conte figures are identical.He belongs on a sideboard, hall cabinet or broad shelf where the upright silhouette can be seen without interruption. Place him near La Contessa for a formal pair, or alone where he can appear to be waiting for the rest of the procession. Il Conte is intended for indoor decoration. He does not need music, masks or an invitation. Judging by the posture, he has brought his own authority.
