Acrobat Azur
Azur has found a way to perform without surrendering the advantages of reclining. One leg stretches along the surface, the other rises above her to hold a tealight dish, while the curved body joins the two with improbable calm. She comes in two heights, and the smaller version is every bit as convinced of the pose as the larger one. Each Azur is cast, released, trimmed and sanded by hand. Layers of blue, orange, green and pink follow the long curves of her body, while black-and-white patterning is drawn freehand along the legs. The dish and smaller ornament are completed separately, with the pattern adjusted around every bend. The brush never travels in precisely the same way twice, so no two Azurs are identical. She works on a sideboard, a wide mantelpiece or the centre of a dining table, where her horizontal shape has room to stretch. The two sizes can be paired without becoming symmetrical, which suits them. Use a tealight of the intended size, keep the flame clear of the painted sections and never leave it unattended. Let any wax cool before lifting it away, and clean with a dry cloth. Azur has already done the difficult part. Your role is largely to light the candle.
